Workforce Training & Development
Do you work with children or adults with learning disabilities? Are you keen to ensure that you provide them with the best possible service that is tailored to their needs?
If yes, Midland Mencap can provide you with a range of bespoke training courses which will give you all the skills and knowledge you require to make your service more inclusive.
From person-centred thinking to the practical steps you can take to create a more accessible environment for people with learning disabilities, our individually tailored courses can give you the information and guidance you need to enable you to move forward with confidence.
The cost of each course is agreed on an individual basis and we work with providers from a range of settings, including schools, child minders and adult care providers. We have already delivered training to over 30 organisations and our aim is to help as many mainstream providers as possible to become more inclusive for people with additional needs.

Here is what some of our previous attendees have said about our courses:
The training we received from Midland Mencap enabled us to empower our staff and for the staff to take ownership of their role in working with children with additional needs. The training was delivered in such a way that staff actually looked forward to their interactive role within that training – it was fun and interesting while getting across a very important message.

I have had the great pleasure of being both participant and co-facilitator in relation to training accessed from Jay by some of the PVI nursery settings I support in my capacity as Area SenCo. Jay’s charismatic, enthusiastic and empowering approach of engaging participants and inspiring them to move rapidly to one where the child/young persons ‘voice’ is central to all they do has been a joy to experience and therefore training I continue to highly recommend. Thank you Jay.

Personally and professionally I found your delivery method very interesting and engaging because Hamdi and myself both have different personalities and different ways of learning but your delivery method was meeting both of our needs. You were including individual who were quiet and encouraged everyone to participate in a very safe and learning environment and that is something we bought back to our nursery during training day and we would like to thank you for coming into our setting and encouraging our staff to value themselves and their team. Hamdi has become your fan because she uses your methods when working with children and leading her team, the resources provided have been very beneficial for all the children not just children with SEN. The networking gave us opportunities to gain more ideas to share experiences of different setting not just early years because their supported us to deliver holiday clubs to older children. Also we always wanted to support the children and families with children with SEN during holidays to give parents a break but we did not have much confidence, but we are very glad that we attended Person Centred training to give us the skills and funding to deliver the sessions during holidays. The atmosphere in the nursery has become more calm and everyone is valuing each other more, so overall a big thank you to you and your team, we are very grateful to have met a person like you and appreciate all the skills and resources provided by your team.
