Aim for your personal best over time, distance or fundraise to help people in the West Midlands with a learning disability live in a world where everybody is valued and included as active and equal citizens in their community regardless of need

The route is suitable for all ages and fitness levels to run, jog or walk
The challenge is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs however it is very hilly so please carefully consider which distance you enter.

Challenge Volunteer Marshal

We need enthusiastic, friendly volunteers to help us make this event a success and create lasting memories for all participants.

As a Volunteer Marshal, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the event runs smoothly. You’ll guide and cheer on competitors, patrol the course and car park, help set up and pack down, and make sure everyone feels welcome and safe.

Where can I park?

At the Town Gate Car Park,The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield B74 2YT

Can I register and pay on the day?

Yes, via card or cash payments. On the day entries will cost £2 more per entry.

When is registration?

9:00- 9:45am at the registration tent, where you will be given a run number and safety pins along with instructions.

Are spectators allowed?

Yes they are.

Where can I leave my bag?

All belongings must be left with your supporters or in your vehicle. The car park is a 2 minute walk from the race village.

Will there be any toilet facilities?

Yes, including an accessible toilet and a changing area at the Clifton Road Centre. Please call 0121-442-4944 for details.

Will there be food and drink to purchase?

Yes, Please follow our social media for updates.

I am a runner with a disability and I may require support, what shall I do?

Carers can enter for free but we require their information beforehand. Contact us at 0121-442-2944 or pr@midlandmencap.org.uk and we can provide further instructions.

When does the race start?

Both the 5k and 10k races start at 10am, make sure to listen to announcements on the day and make your way to the start a few minutes before the start. The 1k will start after the 10k has finished, this will be around 11:30am.

Is there a time limit to the race?

There is no time limit, you can walk, run or wheel at your own pace during the race. Well behaved dogs (on leads) are also welcome.

Can I change my distance on the day?

Yes, but you must talk to a volunteer at the registration tent to confirm.

I can no longer participate in the run, can I have a refund?

No, you cannot receive a refund. However, you can transfer your entry to another person.

What if I experience a problem during the race?

There will be marshals in Midland Mencap high visibility jackets to help and we also have first aiders to respond in the case of an emergency.

Can children participate in The Sutton Challenge?

Children need to be 15 or older to enter the 10k race. Children of any age can participate the 5k and 1k. Children under the age of 11 must enter with a responsible adult. There is no charge for children in pushchairs.

Can we bring a flag, tent or gazebo?

Yes, individual participants and running clubs are welcome to bring a flag, tents or gazebo’s to set up next to the race village. Please remember to take all your belongings, including litter away with you.
