Techy Friday (Digital support)- Volunteer Role (Walsall)
Who are Midland Mencap?
Midland Mencap is a charity which works and campaigns for accessible and inclusive services and a better quality of life for everyone with experience of learning disabilities and additional needs. Volunteering with Midland Mencap is your opportunity to do something really positive, to have a great time, and help us achieve our vision.
Purpose of the role?
Techy Friday is a weekly drop in session where adults with learning disabilities, autism or additional needs and their carers can come and socialise, try out IT equipment and get support from our volunteers with IT related issues!
Midland Mencap seeks a passionate volunteer with good digital and IT skills to help our citizens and family carers access information and connect with their local communities by helping them understand the basics of social and digital platforms and applications.
If you are wizz on social media, a genius with Microsoft office and have a great understanding of digital platforms, you could help to make the world a bit easier to navigate.
Help us showcase the positive impact of the digital world to people who may not currently be accessing it and expand their horizons. Provide tips on safe and secure access so that everyone feels confident to use the internet
What would I be doing?
- Provide a “drop in” opportunity at our busy session at Walsall Disability Hub: Meet and help citizens and their carers to understand and access the digital world via a laptop, smartphone, or other devices. This may include helping people get online safely, create digital content, send emails and use Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint. Some attendees may simply want support to use Youtube or TikTok!
- Socialising: Spending time getting to know our attendees and their carers. An interest in chatting and encouraging adults with disabilities to engage and participate is key.
- Helping out at the Disability Hub: This could include helping to set out and tidy away the IT equipment. Greeting attendees and making them feel welcome, making hot drinks and supporting the Disabilty Hub staff with simple tasks.
